Forest School Activities

Posted: 19th October 2022

Over the first half term, children from Nursery to Year 6 have enjoyed forest school activities as part of Brabyns’ extensive and varied curriculum.

These lessons allow us to take advantage of our beautiful surroundings – both in school and the wider local area – where the children are encouraged to learn through visual stimuli, sounds, smells and tastes.

Each tailored session involves child centred activities focusing on play, exploration problem-solving self-discovery and supported risk-taking. Encouraging children to learn through hands-on experiential learning in a natural setting helps to develop their confidence and self-esteem.

Year 3 and 4 visited High Lea Park in New Mills and took part in various activities including:

Team Building. Working in groups to create minibeast shapes as a team.

Creative – Making animals and habitats using clay and natural materials from the woodland area

Physical. Guiding a blindfolded partner around the park area in a paired challenge.
