It has been wonderful to have the children in Year 4 back in the classroom this week. After much discussion and reflection of the weeks passed, we have realised how our time is a precious commodity that needs to be spent in the most efficient of ways, to ensure gaps can be bridged, allow learning to be loved and reconnect with our friends.
This journey of spending our time wisely to enable the children achieve the outcomes that they deserve is helped distinctly by the Brabyns ethos, and in particular the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child. Therefore, yes, the devotion of time this week has been spent focusing on core skills in English and Maths, but equally has provided opportunities to engage in Science experiments, Art activities, new Geography topics, reflective discussion time, Dance, PE (the list continues), to give back to the children what they had missed during virtual learning.
In addition, within both the core and foundation subject lessons this week, the chance for Year 4 to work as part of a team has been widely given to allow purposeful discussion to take place, intertwined with the children putting into practice the necessary skills needed for working in partnership with others. It is such a delight to see how they reflect the Brabyns nurturing values, by working together as a supportive team member: celebrating each other’s strengths and recognising their differences. I am sure they will continue to encapsulate the Brabyns way as we move forward. Certainly teamwork makes the dreamwork.
Well done Year 4!
