It is hard to believe that our new Reception children only started school just over three weeks ago. They have settled so quickly into their new classroom and outdoor area that it feels like they have always been there.
There is so much to learn about the way school life works that we have had to slowly introduce the children to each element day by day. The children began by exploring the classroom, finding out about the different areas and slowly feeling comfortable to find things they are interested in. They then explored the Reception garden, finding out about the open-ended resources we have there that will really expand their learning.
The children were tentative at first, staying with the resources and people they were most familiar with. Slowly, and with staff modelling new ways to engage with the environment, the class are building different friendships and finding new ways of playing that expand their horizons.
There have also been opportunities to help the children feel part of the whole school. They have met their new Year 5 buddies and received their special House badges from new House Captains. These are very exciting events for Reception children!
The children are growing in confidence every day. They engage more in conversation with each other and invite each other into their games. Their imaginations are beginning to take flight and they skip happily into school each morning. Their giggles and their shouts of excitement are beginning to fill the school. This year is just beginning, but already they are feeling at home.
