At Brabyns, we are always striving to give the Reception children opportunities to challenge themselves and keep trying when they find things difficult: key elements of the ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ within the EYFS Framework.
Already this term we have had specialist sessions in Music where children have been encouraged to sing or perform solo. Our Forest School Activity session emphasised resilience and determination when weaving natural materials into sisal string. Giving the school tortoise a bath provided some children with an exciting challenge where they had to overcome fears. In their independent play, children are always encouraged to show determination and resilience such as practising throwing the frisbee until it flies where you want it to go or digging a hole to help plant a bulb in the hard ground.
We are passionate about educating children in a holistic way to become confident, self-assured and determined young people and these are just a handful of examples that happen all the time that demonstrate our commitment to this.
