Mark Making in Nursery

In Nursery we have been practising making marks with different tools and materials. Mark making is a crucial part of a child’s early learning. It prepares them to hold a pen correctly, improves their fine motor skills and develops hand-eye coordination.

The children have been engaging in mark making activities during child-initiated play using pencils, whiteboards, paint and in messy play.

The children have then been encouraged to talk about the marks they have made, ascribing meaning to the different elements of their pictures. Talking about their work develops the children’s imagination, enabling them to represent their thoughts and ideas in their pictures.

Both Little Gems and Kindergarten have created some impressive images, and should be very proud of their achievements. Please take a look!

Well done Nursery!
