Our Little Gems class are practising their mark making skills. When they are making marks, they are practising holding a pencil and are controlling their marks with their muscles. This enhances their physical development by improving their fine motor skills and helps to develop their hand-eye coordination; both fundamental skills for young writers.
This can be done using pen and paper, paint, malleable materials such as play dough or in messy play- these are all brilliant tools to practise making marks. The children have then been focussing on talking about the marks they have made and the different elements within their creation.
They have enjoyed some wonderful, imaginative mark making activities so far this term including: drawing self-portraits, painting nails, making birthday cakes and even some superhero creations!
