Year 2 walked around Media City UK to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ heart-warming picture book, The Snowman.
Walking with The Snowman is the first ever sculpture trail inspired by the nation’s favourite Christmas story. There were twelve giant Snowman sculptures waiting to be found, each based on the song The Twelve Days of Christmas.
The children completed the trail before Christmas and then used the story to start their English work in the New Year. This bought to life the story for the children and nurtured their love of learning and engagement in the text.
One of the English lessons focused on writing alternative endings to the story. The children had some lovely, imaginative ideas, and we may have some authors in the making!
