Little Gems Dinosaur Fun
Our topic this half term has been Dinosaurs. It has been wonderful to see the children’s faces light up when they see the different dinosaur- themed activities. We have read stories about dinosaurs, made dinosaur eggs and built homes for the dinosaurs!
Baking with Kindergarten
On a weekly basis, the Kindergarten children have been involved in lots of dinosaur-themed baking activities, ranging from claws, watermelon, eggs and nests. This helps develop their thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills. It also allows the children the opportunity to use the knowledge they have and apply it by counting, measuring, following a sequence, following directions, and cause and effect. The experience also helps build their self-confidence and lays the foundation for healthy eating habits as well as being great fun and linked to our topic.
Reception Dinosaur Museum
It is the last week of our dinosaur topic and the Reception children have been busy preparing for and filming their own virtual museum tour for their Year 5 buddies. We have created a dinosaur museum in the classroom with the children’s work and photographs of the activities undertaken this half term. The children then talked with great enthusiasm and knowledge about different dinosaurs, their teeth, eggs and fossils. It is the culmination of a half term learning about similarities and differences between animals and changes in the natural world over time. Their natural curiosity has led to some fascinating discussions about the extinction of the dinosaurs and how and why human teeth share similarities with both carnivorous and herbivorous dinosaurs.
