This term in Year 3 we have been working on strategies for developing the children’s independence.
As the children make the transition into the Juniors they are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own belongings and packing their own bags.
Keeping the cloakroom tidy has been a particular challenge for the children!
In lessons the children are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and we have been working on strategies for ‘what to do when we get stuck’ and how to get out of the Learning Pit successfully.
It is important to train learners to become more comfortable with being stuck and to help them build their resilience so that they don’t give up so easily.
Here are some of the strategies we have been using in Year 3.
If I get stuck I can:
Read the question again
Read through your work
Look at the information on the working wall
Look for patterns
Ask a friend
Think
Try it out in rough
Draw pictures
Sound it out
Read the learning objective/ success criteria again
Be brave, have another go
Use some equipment- a 100 square, number line, counters
