Following success as regional Tameside winners of the National Young Mathematicians Award, the children had a visit last week from Explore Learning, hosts of the competition.
Children from Reception up to Year 6 were given the opportunity to problem-solve collaboratively, using their knowledge of Maths, and applying it to real situations. Workshops included Planets, Fruit Basket, Sign Makers and Lunch Break.
Having a ‘real-life’ problem engaged the children and helped them to understand the relevance of their Maths lessons to the wider world. In a similar way to the children's lessons at Brabyns, they were encouraged to ask questions and ‘have a go.’
At the end of each session, some children were awarded with ‘fearless learner’ certificates, to reward them for their positive and resilient attitude to learning.
