To ensure their Spanish learning is purposeful Year 5 and 6 have continued practising ordering food in Spanish. Mrs Bailey, our Brabyns Chef, kindly offered to prepare a Spanish lunch for them. The children created a menu each so they could order their food from it.
Next, some of the children helped dress up the Hall as a Spanish Restaurant, with table cloths and Spanish flag bunting. In the background, an atmosphere of the Spanish guitar was added.
Year 6 were each paired with a Year 5 child and they spoke in Spanish to take each others’ order, ticking their menus as they ordered. After that, they both went over to the Chefs’ hatch and explained to them what their partner would like to eat for their lunch, in Spanish.
When they sat down they presented the food to each other. Two of the children kindly took Mr Sanders’ order for his Spanish lunch too!
The event was overall a fun and engaging way of using their Spanish in a real life situation. Hence, hopefully if the children are lucky enough to travel to a Spanish speaking country then they will remember how to order food in Spanish.
