We are proud, at Brabyns, to have been a pilot School for Bellevue Education’s Coaching project, the aim of which is to create a robust framework for effective observation and dialogue in order to consistently drive forward standards of teaching and learning.
In order to do this, teaching staff have been using the ‘Swivl Cam,’ to record parts of lessons, which can then be observed by other staff and used as the basis for coaching conversations. Swivl Cams also give the facility to hear the children’s conversations during group activities, and as such give a wide range of information as to the children’s understanding, and indeed misconceptions in any particular area.
We are now into our second year of the coaching project, and the focus this term is on developing coaching skills in all the teachers. The principal aim now is to create an environment where all staff feel confident in coaching one another with the result of continually driving up standards.
All staff report successes and developments within their own teaching as a direct result of the coaching programme, and we are all delighted that the children too enjoy the presence of the Swivl Cam. It reinforces to the whole School community that learning never stops, and that we can always challenge ourselves to look for even better ways to help each other learn.
