Year 4 Learning to Distinguish the Key Features of Marple

In our Geography topic this term we have been learning to distinguish the key human features of our local area, Marple. In order to fully understand what buildings and amenities we have on our door step, we went on a field trip, with the intention of photographing significant buildings that we could later identify on our grid maps.  Many of the children in the class do not live or shop in Marple, so for some it was beneficial to have the first hand experience.

The follow up lesson gave the children new skills in map reading and writing co-ordinates for various roads and buildings.

Many parents have commented how fantastic it is that their children get so many opportunities to be out and about in their local community and indeed this is an area that we deem very important to the children’s overall education.
