This half term in Year 1 (& Year 2) our over-arching theme is ‘On the Farm’.
To engage the children in their learning we use this theme to make cross curricular links in a range of subjects.
In English the book we are studying is ‘Farmer Duck’ by Martin Waddell. We have looked at the feelings of the characters, the setting of the story and written lists so far.
In Geography we are exploring the differences between life on a farm and life in the city, using maps and symbols to navigate around a farm and exploring how the seasons affect life on a farm.
The children take part in a ‘Topic’ afternoon where we can link some of our Art and Design work into our theme. So far the children have made some salt dough farm animals and collage sheep.
One of the highlights of the term was our visit to Smithills Farm to help inspire the children and fully engage them in the topic.

Cross curricular learning provides children with engaging, motivating and challenging experiences in their learning.
